NC has a long history with golf. In the 1930’s Bobby
Jones and some of his golfing friends saw the beauty
and potential of Highlands and established the
Highlands Country Club. Today Highlands Country Club
is one of seven successful residential country club
communities in the area. With 18 holes, 6,255 yards
of golf from the longest tees and a par of 70, this
course is one of the most popular in Western North
Carolina. It presents particular difficulty for
those used to flat land, as the mountains and
rolling hills offer a unique terrain with a
different challenge on every hole.
The Cullasaja Golf Course in Highlands was designed
by Arnold Palmer and opened in 1989. It features
6,651 yards for a par of 72. The course has a rating
of 72.1 with a slope rating of 128 on Bent grass.
Also in Highlands NC is the Highlands Falls Golf
Course at Highland Falls Country Club. This course
is a bit shorter at 6,130 yards and a par of 70.
Further south across the North Carolina/Georgia
border you’ll find Sky Valley Resort, an 18 hole,
6,901 yard course with a par of 71.
If you are a golfer, there is no better place to
hone your skills than in Highlands NC. The views
here are unparalleled, and you’re sure to find a
course that is challenging for your style of play.
